Welcome...

Having sold the family retail memorial business to a new independent Partnership at the end of 2006, I am now a self-employed consultant employed by the new Partnership on business admin and sales.

I am available as a Consultant in the particular field of Memorials, having spent forty five years in the retail business. I have gained experience with the manufacture and retail of fireplaces, as we did run a separate business called “Fireplaces of Quality” in Exeter which we closed down. There is a restrictive covenant preventing my participation in direct retail sales of Memorials, other then for Langmead Memorial.

I started in the workshop of my fathers business at sixteen learning the skill of lettering. This changed to assisting my father in the office and business administration, and at the same time assisting the skilled staff in the outside fixing. My father had considered it more important to learn the skill of running a business, and when I was twenty six he passed away. This gave me the opportunity of modernisation, as well as purchasing the Freehold of our Exeter site, and later purchasing a business in Plymouth.

I have been associated with the National Association of Memorial Masons for many years, being elected National President in 1986, the youngest then to have held office. Over the years I have served as regional secretary and on both Management and General Council, I have also held the office of Chairman for Exmouth Chamber of Commerce, and I am now a member of Exeter Chamber, as well as a Branch committee member for the Federation of Small Business. My wife and I have been members of the URC-Church in Exeter for many years and I chair the Buildings Committee.

At sixty one I am looking for new challenges, training – inspection or advisory reporting, and I am also involved with our commercial building under Langmead Property Partnership.
